We sign our lease for our new place tomororw. Me, the boy, our current flatmate, the boys sister, the boys sisters boyfriend and two cats are all moving into a rather large townhouse. This is an attempt to save money on the ridiculous amounts of rent we’re all paying at the moment. That and our current landlord wants to move into our current house as soon as possible and are happy for us to break the lease without any sort of financial penalty.
On one hand, I really, really hate moving house. It’s such a pain to sort through all the stuff in the house and put everything neatly into boxes. On the other hand? I finally have the chance to sort through all the stuff in our house and throw out all the junk we’ve collected over the last four years. I may even sell a few bits and pieces we no longer need.
Last time we moved (about 10 months ago) it was a rush-job. Everything was literally thrown into boxes and regurgitated at the new house. We moved in a day. Well, actually. I lie, I didn’t really do a thing. The boys (boyfriend + flatmate) did. I went to work from one house, and came home that same evening to another.
We don’t have to give the keys back for our current place until the 30th of June. Meaning we have two full weeks to cull, pack & clean. There’s stuff floating around here we really no longer have any need for. Pefect example? I just found my biological disecting kit from back when I was a science/arts student at Melbourne Uni (almost 3 years ago). I don’t plan on chopping up any more rats any time soon…
eBay here I come. Wish me luck.

I’ll so happily come over and help clean, it’s like an adrenaline rush for me. :P
Pft. Don’t say that. I may just take you up on it. I don’t like the whole cleaning part of moving AT ALL! :P
It’s a cleansing sort of feeling really. Any big clean up is :)
I hope the move goes smoothly. I’ll be doing that in a few week’s time for the first time. I’m excited. The novelty probably wears off after the first time, though.
I’ve got one of those kits around here somewhere that they made us get and I never used it.
Ange and I are moving in the next few weeks. Difference is we’re moving into our own price. Last time we moved, I put my foot down and said “I don’t care if the rent doubles, we’re not moving until we’ve bought somewhere”.
Of course, $300,000 in Sydney gets you a 2-bedroom apartment in an OK suburb. What I would give to have Melbourne prices in Sydney…
our own place*
House prices in Melbourne are silly as well… :D
Only in the area’s you’ve been looking at, nadine
even out your way and further kris they’re still too silly for me :P actually. any house price at all is too silly once I look at my (non-existant) bank balance!
