I spent last weekend in the middle of nowhere. Literally. One of the boy’s cousins had what I’m now referring to as the “wilderness wedding.” I can understand why they chose to have their wedding (in the middle of nowhere) at Meringa Springs though… the venue was stunning & the Saturday afternoon weather was gorgeous. It was actually a very beautiful ceremony.
That said, our accommodation was not quite so beautiful.
- The hard wired fire alarms were malfunctioning and went off every few minutes until about three in the morning.
- It was disgustingly hot and the swimming pool was green.
- I had no phone reception. I felt ridiculously disconnected without phone reception. The boy and his family taunted me constantly. :(
- Oh, and I am STILL scratching myself silly where I was eaten alive by countless bugs.
I kind of wish we’d been told our accommodation was basically camping!
Anyway, it was only an overnight trip. We headed back to Melbourne first thing Sunday morning. The pictures below were taken at Mackenzie Falls in the Grampians. We detoured on the way home. :)

Adams neck looks weird :P
Halls Gap is beautiful. Swimming at mckenzies is fun too :)
Rebel! There’s like 32478237548374 no swimming signs there…
That may be a new thing. It’s been a few years since I swam there – like, 7 or 8… something ridiculous :P
I can’t stand bugs. I don’t think I’d want my wedding reception tainted by them for a couple of reasons. Mainly I would have to chose between smelling like awful bug spray or being eaten alive, and secondly for the sake of my guests. But I guess if it was pretty enough, then maybe…
Ugh! If I ever get married… it will most definitely be a bug free zone! Being eaten alive and smelling like bug spray are both great options! It doesn’t matter how pretty! That said, the wedding had no bugs, it was just our dodgy as cheap ass camping accommodation! :P
Beautiful pictures! But I wouldn’t have wanted to go camping overnight and get bitten by bugs :(
Camping and bugs aren’t too bad if you’re prepared and have bug spray or are staying somewhere within a 50km radius of a store that can sell you bug spray! :D
At our old apartment, we had that same issue with the smoke detector. It kept going off like twice every hour. It was being stupid. We took it apart to sleep throughout the night, and then replaced the batteries to see if that’d do the trick. Luckily that’s all it was.
Ew, bugs. I hate bugs. One night I woke up and felt something crawling on my arm. I almost died with panic. So gross! This is why I can never go camping. I’m sure something would crawl into the tent. *shudders*
Beautiful pictures. The waterfall is amazing! I’m sure the place where the wedding held was gorgeous, too. :-)
That’s not fair! At least you could take the batteries out. :P At this place the fire alarms were hard-wired into the electricity. We ended up calling the “emergency phone number” and the guy/owner had no real idea as to what to do. He ended up killing the power to the shack we were in just so we could sleep!
